What happens to my skin?

The micro-injuries from the tiny needles lead to the effective remodeling of scar tissue and skin, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.  There are three phases to the wound-repair process:

Phase I: Inflammation - Piercing the skin triggers your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.

Phase II: Proliferation - The wound is rebuilt with new granulation cells, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.

Phase III: Remodeling - The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.

What can it treat?
Needling is used to treat scarring, especially scarring caused by acne. Traditionally, this type of scarring has been very difficult to treat but the needles are used to break up the tethering in the scar, which results in less indentation and greater smoothness on the surface of the skin.

Needling stimulates the body’s natural healing powers and gives the scar a second chance to repair itself – without surgery or lasers.

What is the downtime?
Typically the healing time depends on the severity of the damaged skin and the depth of the procedure. Most commonly there may be some redness that resembles mild sunburn. This may last for 2-4 days. Most patients may have the redness dissipate within 24 hours

Discontinue use of retinoids 3 days prior and post procedure.

As a result of the micro injuries your face will be very red directly after treatment. Normally for most clients the red will fade over the next 24 hours, but can take longer depending on your skin type.

At Karma we use a disposable one use cartridge that is changed for every client to ensure everything is clean, sterile and ready for use and there is no cross contamination.
