Introducing DERMAPEN Microneedling and Exosomes
Microneedling (Dermapen)
Bid farewell to lacklustre, scarred and textured skin with our microneedling treatments. Karmauses the revolutionary Dermapen, an FDA-approved device with a unique spring loaded needle tip, ensuring a more comfortable and targeted treatment experience.
Microneedling involves creating tiny punctures in the skin, inducing an inflammatory response that accelerates the natural production of collagen and elastin. This results in a lifting and tightening effect, plumps out pitted acne scars and remodels stretch marks for effective and long-lasting results.
Karma uses the revolutionary MediPen for microneedling treatments; it’s controlled depth and speed minimise pain and trauma, leading to less downtime and a faster healing response.
Micro-needling is the process of creating small channels in the skin to all for the penetration of product and encourage collagen synthesis.
Dermapen is the global leader in microneedling technology and revolutionised the industry a decade ago by inventing the first ever automated microneedling device. Dermapen has become the most trusted name in microneedling skin rejuvenation and have continued to set and reset the bar, delivering you the gold standard in skin rejuvenation.
HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WORK?
Microneedling involves creating tiny punctures in the skin, causing an inflammatory response and forcing your skin to go into ‘healing mode’ – stimulating your natural production of collagen and elastin. This controlled injury to the skin causes micro-canals, which aids in the absorption of medical grade serums applied during the treatment to help fight signs of damage and increase hydration in the skin. This two step approach helps to improve skin texture, plumps out scarring, reduce fine lines and enhance overall skin health and appearance.
HOW LONG TO START SEEING THE RESULTS OF MICRONEEDLING?
It can take between 4-8 weeks to start seeing the benefits of improved collagen production, continuing to gradually improve over the course of treatments, optimal results are visible within 2-3 months.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I REQUIRE?
For optimal and long-lasting results, a series of microneedling sessions may be recommended, with a couple of weeks in between each treatment. The number of sessions depends on individual skin concerns and response. We offer a course of 6 microneedling sessions for £.
HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
Results from Microneedling can be long-lasting, especially with proper skincare and maintenance sessions. While a single session can offer noticeable improvements, a series of treatments may be advised for sustained benefits.
WHAT PRODUCTS DOES SKINHD USE FOR MICRONEEDLING?
SkinHD uses MediMD and their revolutionary MediPen, an FDA-approved device with a unique spring-loaded needle tip, ensuring a more comfortable and targeted treatment experience. We also combine the treatment with MediMD’s medical grade active serums to maximise the results.
IS MICRONEEDLING SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE?
Microneedling is generally safe for most skin types, but individual suitability varies. A consultation with a skin specialist at SkinHD assesses skin type, concerns and medical history to determine the most appropriate Microneedling approach.
WHEN SHOULD I PLAN TO HAVE MICRONEEDLING BEFORE A BIG EVENT?
As the benefits of Microneedling tend to be visible 4-8 weeks after your treatment, and usually requires multiple sessions, each a few weeks apart, we’d recommend starting your microneedling journey at least 3 months before any significant event to ensure maximum results.
Microneedling, while effective, may entail some post-treatment effects. Redness and sensitivity, lasting up to 72 hours, are common, and you might experience some bruising that can linger for a couple of days. For these reasons, we advise scheduling your Microneedling sessions with a buffer of a few days before any major social events, allowing your skin the time it needs to settle and reveal the radiant results!
WILL IT BE OBVIOUS THAT I’VE HAD MICRONEEDLING?
The visibility of microneedling effects can vary based on individual skin responses. Following the procedure, it’s normal to experience redness and sensitivity for up to 72 hours, and you may notice some bruising, which typically lasts a few days. However, with proper aftercare, any immediate signs of treatment are likely to diminish relatively quickly.
SkinHD promotes a natural-looking outcome for all their treatments. The goal is to enhance your skin’s health and appearance gradually. The initial post-treatment effects are part of the process, signalling the skin regenerative response. Our practitioners guide you through the aftercare process, ensuring you enjoy the transformative benefits of microneedling with minimal and temporary visibility of the treatment itself.
WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE ADVICE FOR MICRONEEDLING?
Avoid touching your face or applying make-up for 24 hours after treatment.
Avoid extreme heat and strenuous exercise for 48 hours after treatment.
Avoid sun exposure and apply SPF religiously every day– even when it’s raining or you’re not leaving the house!
Avoid active ingredients/exfoliants (acids, retinols etc) or other irritants in skincare products for a few days – your SkinHD practitioner will advise your specific aftercare depending on your skin type.
Use a gentle cleanser and good quality moisturiser to help soothe irritation after your microneedling treatment
CAN MICRONEEDLING BE USED IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?
Microneedling can be combined with most other treatments offered at SkinHD for a full face rejuvenation.
ARE THERE ANY POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS WITH MICRONEEDLING?
Microneedling is generally considered safe, but as with all aesthetics treatments, it carries the potential for side effects. Common side effects include redness, swelling and some bruising for a couple of days after treatment. It’s also normal for your skin to feel a little more dry or itchy and you may also experience some flaking as your skin heals. Using a good quality moisturiser can help alleviate this.
Rare side effects include changes in skin colour, infection, scarring and allergic reactions. If you have a history of cold sores, undergoing microneedling may reactivate the virus – taking OTC acyclovir for 2 days before treatments can help reduce this risk.
Prepping the skin before a microneedling treatment can help enhance the results and reduce the risk of side effects.
Consultation – have a chat with your skin specialist to advise what treatment course is best recommended to help alleviate your skin concerns.
Skincare routine adjustment – your practitioner may advise to avoid or introduce certain skincare products in the few days leading up to your appointment
Sun protection – ensure that you use a good quality broad spectrum SPF in the weeks leading up to your appointment as microneedling cannot be performed on recently tanned or sunburnt skin. Daily use of an SPF is also absolutely essential in the weeks after your appointment
Avoid certain medications, such as retinoids, in the week of your appointment
Avoid scrubs, exfoliants, hair removal (including shaving) and other irritants – otherwise it may increase the risk of experiencing unwanted side effects.
Ideally arrive at your appointment without make-up, but don’t worry too much if you don’t as your practitioner will thoroughly cleanse the skin before carrying out the treatment.
What concerns does Microneedling address:
- Acne scarring and stretch marks – microneedling targets scar tissue, improving the appearance of pitted scars and reducing the redness of stretch marks.
- Uneven skin tone and texture – microneedling promotes the growth of healthier, evenly pigmented skin
- Fine lines and wrinkles – collagen stimulation aids in smoothing fine lines and plumps out skin for a subtle lifted effect
- Plumping facial volume – microneedling stimulates your natural collagen production, which can improve the density and volume of the skin
- Post-operative scarring – microneedling helps remodel recent scarring for a less noticeable appearance
- Improved skincare absorption – microneedling facilitates deeper penetration of MediMD medical grade active serums
- Enhances blood flow – promoting a healthy complexion
- Suitable for delicate areas such as around the eyes, nose and lips
What is micro-needling?
Microneedling helps the skin to repair itself after it has encountered any physical damage like cuts, scars, or any other physical damage. When an injury occurs, your skin will destroy the old, damaged tissue that causes acne scarring and wrinkles and will replace it with fresh healthy skin. This treatment is best for all skin types and tones, especially for people who are facing problems like acne scarring, wrinkling, fine lines, and dilated pores.
Microneedling treats the full face for the skin rejuvenation, but it’s not restricted only to the face; it can also treat other areas of the body like the abdomen, legs, arms, and hands. It can safely treat all forms of scars like acne or surgery scars, abdominal scars, stretch marks, burn contracture scars and loose skin..
What is unique about Dermapen™?
Dermapen™ is an automated micro-needling device that has 12 needles in a single use sterile cartridge.
These oscillate rapidly and produce around 1900 micro channels per second. The rapid oscillation of the needles and the structure of the needles improve the comfort of the patient and add to safety and control.
What should I avoid after microneedling?
To ensure proper healing, we encourage patients to observe the following instructions for at least 24 hours after treatment.
- Avoid direct sunlight and exposure to harmful UV rays
- Do not go swimming or immerse your face in water
- Avoid strenuous exercise or any activities that promote sweating
- Do not apply make-up or lotions

How quickly does it work and how long will it last?
Initially the treatment creates erythema and possible pinpoint bleeding. The erythema may last for up to 48 hours before subsiding but is usually gone in 24 hours For most people the skin feels like it is mildly sunburnt. As the skin reacts and repairs itself you will start to see the effects of the treatment. While you may see results after just one treatment, a course of treatments is recommended to maximise results which is generally 3-6 treatments every 4-6 weeks. This will depend on your cell renewal process, as this slows down as we age. In general it can take up to 8 weeks to see any results, however the regeneration process will continue over the following months giving a gradual enhancement.
Is there anyone who is unable to have the treatments?
Microneedling is suitable for most skin types, however, it is not suitable for clients who:
