The 2D Laser Facial is a powerful, non-invasive treatment that combines two advanced technologies in one session – Laser Genesis and Limelight IPL – to deliver visible improvements in skin tone, texture and overall radiance.

The treatment begins with Laser Genesis, a gentle laser that works below the skin’s surface to stimulate collagen production, calm redness, refine pores, and soften fine lines. It’s particularly beneficial for reducing inflammation and supporting rosacea-prone skin, all while giving the complexion a healthy, fresh glow.

Next, we use Limelight IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to target pigmentation, sun damage, and uneven skin tone on the surface. By drawing out discolouration and evening redness, it leaves the skin looking clearer, brighter, and more uniform in colour.

By combining these two steps in one session, we can tackle multiple skin concerns at once – from redness and pigmentation to dullness and early signs of ageing – without the downtime of more aggressive treatments. Many clients notice an immediate refreshed look after their first session, with even greater results building over a course.

What concerns does a 2D Facial address:

  • Redness and rosacea

  • Pigmentation, freckles and sun spots

  • Uneven skin tone

  • Dullness and lack of radiance

  • Fine lines and early signs of ageing

  • Enlarged pores

  • Mild acne scarring

  • General skin rejuvenation

  • HOW DOES A 2D FACIAL WORK?

    Step 1 – Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis gently heats the upper dermis to stimulate collagen production, improve microcirculation, and reduce redness. Over time, it softens fine lines, smooths uneven texture, and leaves the skin looking healthy and refreshed.

    Step 2 – Limelight IPL

Limelight IPL uses targeted pulses of light to break down pigmentation, reduce redness, and even out skin tone. Pigmented spots often darken slightly before flaking away, revealing clearer, more uniform skin underneath.

By combining these treatments, we can address both deep and surface-level concerns in a single appointment, maximising results and reducing the need for separate sessions.

  • HOW LONG TO START SEEING THE RESULTS OF A 2D FACIAL?

Many clients notice their skin looks fresher, less inflamed and more radiant within a few days of the first session. Pigmentation improvements and collagen stimulation continue to develop over the following weeks, especially when having a course of treatments.

  • HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I REQUIRE?

While you may see improvements after just one treatment, most clients achieve optimal results with a course of 3–6 sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart. We’ll create a personalised plan during your consultation.

  • HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?

The immediate glow can last for several weeks, while deeper improvements in redness, pigmentation and texture build over a course of treatments and can last for months. Maintenance sessions every few months will help keep your results at their best.

  • IS A 2D FACIAL FOR EVERYONE?

It’s suitable for lighter skin types (Fitzpatrick I–III) with concerns such as redness, pigmentation, or early signs of ageing. It’s not recommended for darker skin tones, very sensitive or reactive skin, or for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. A consultation and patch test will confirm suitability.

  • WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?

Laser Genesis feels warm and relaxing – often compared to the gentle heat of the sun. Limelight IPL feels like a quick flick or snap on the skin, but is very manageable thanks to the cooling tip on the device.

  • WHEN SHOULD I PLAN TO HAVE A 2D FACIAL BEFORE A BIG EVENT?

If you’re new to the treatment, allow at least 2 weeks before a big event so your skin has time to settle and show its best results. If you’re having regular sessions, a top-up a week or so beforehand can give you a beautiful boost.

  • WILL IT BE OBVIOUS THAT I’VE HAD A 2D FACIAL?

Most people leave with only a light flush, which usually fades within a few hours. Any pigmentation may darken slightly before naturally flaking away, but this is subtle and can be covered with makeup from the next day. You won’t look “done” – just like you on your best skin day, with less redness, a calmer complexion, and a more even ton

  • CAN A 2D FACIAL BE USED IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?

Yes – it works well alongside treatments such as skin boosters, microneedling and chemical peels. We’ll just ensure they’re scheduled appropriately, as we don’t perform them on the same day.

  • ARE THERE ANY POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS WITH A 2D FACIAL?

Most people experience only mild, short-lived effects such as slight redness, subtle swelling, or temporary darkening of pigmentation as it lifts to the surface – all normal signs your skin is responding well. In rare cases, laser and IPL treatments can cause blistering, burns, or changes in pigmentation, but this is uncommon, and our thorough consultation, patch testing, and careful settings are all designed to minimise any risk.

  • IS ANY PREPARATION NEEDED FOR MY 2D FACIAL TREATMENT?

We recommend avoiding sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tan for at least 4 weeks before your appointment. Pause active skincare (like retinoids and exfoliating acids) for 3–5 days beforehand. We’ll give you full pre-care instructions during your consultation.

If you have hair growth in the area to be treated, this should be shaved 24 hours before your treatment.

  • WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE ADVICE FOR A 2D FACIAL?

Avoid heat (hot showers, saunas, strenuous exercise) for 24–48 hours, and steer clear of active skincare for at least 3 days. Always wear SPF 30+ daily, avoid picking at flaking pigmentation, and keep your skin well hydrated with a gentle moisturiser.

How does Cutera 2D skin rejuvenation work?

A 2D facial utilises Cutera technology, combining Laser Genesis and Limelight IPL in the one session to treat two different layers of your skin. These treatments are also available individually.

Laser Genesis uses an ND: Yag laser with a wavelength of 1064nm for mid dermal stimulation to encourage new collagen production. Collagen is what keeps our skin looking young and firm.

The Limelight is an IPL (intense pulsed light). It aims to improve the superficial appearance of the skin by addressing pigmentation, sallowness, enlarged pores, fine lines and tiny telangiectasia (spider veins).

By using both in the one session, most skin concerns can be improved although results vary.

We recommend a course of 4-6 treatments. Each session takes about an hour.

Cost

Full face £300; Hands £250; Single lesion £130; Course of 3 full face £750 (course to be completed within 6 months from date of purchase)

What will my skin look like afterwards?

We will advise you on how to treat your skin for the next couple of days.  The skin will be glowing, and without the makeup, may look a little sunburned. You leave makeup on until you wash your face before bed.

Your skin may feel a little dry and tight, like wind or sunburn for a day.

The next day you can put on normal makeup.

For people with dark spots, you may notice they go a darker black and then kind of just flake off.

You will notice improvements after each treatment, but your skin may continue to improve for several months after the treatment as new collagen is produced.

After four treatments your skin feels smoother and firmer, and any summer freckles have all but gone.

1

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

One to three treatments are usually sufficient to see results. Additional treatments may be recommended, especially for excessively sun-damaged skin. Frequently, people will return for further treatments on an annual basis.

2

What Happens After The Limelight IPL Treatment?

Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken and your skin may appear slightly red. The treated area may be mildly swollen. This typically lasts a few hours and possibly a day or longer. Make-up can be applied to cover the redness.

3

When Will I See Results?

Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade. Diffuse redness or thread veins will decrease and your mottled complexion should improve. As stated above, some people will require several treatment sessions to achieve their desired outcome.

4

Will The Spots And Redness Reappear Over Time?

New brown spots, telangiectasia and diffuse redness may appear with new sun damage; however they too can be treated. Remember to always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and diffuse redness. Rosacea is chronic and cannot be “cured” with any laser or light source, however its appearance can be improved.
